This expert-level training seminar hosted for quantity surveyors in Rwanda marked a significant collaboration among professionals from 13 major consulting companies. Participants hailed from renowned organizations such as Horizon Construction, ARABELLA, Bank of Kigali, and others, representing a diverse spectrum of the construction industry in the country.

The primary objective of the training was to empower quantity surveyors, civil engineers, and other construction professionals with a background in quantity surveying and Planswift knowledge. The focus was on mastering the use of Planswift software, a powerful tool designed to streamline and digitize various aspects of construction projects. The training was led by Saady Chohan, a distinguished Planswift Trainer specializing in the Middle East and Africa. With a wealth of knowledge and experience. Saady Chohan guided the participants through the details of Planswift, sharing insights and best practices to maximize its potential in their daily workflows.

The expert was facilitated by Samuel Niyokwizerwa, with his wealth of experience in the multinational construction industry and mastery of Planswift software, brought a unique and invaluable perspective to the training.
Planswift, known as the world’s #1 software for automated quantity takeoffs, emerged as the focal point of the training session. Attendees were introduced to its powerful features and functionalities, emphasizing its role in achieving precise and efficient Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation.

• Participants gain an in-depth understanding of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation, with emphasis on the importance of accuracy, the implications of errors, and the role of BOQ in cost estimation, procurement, and project documentation.

• Attendees will master to navigate the PlanSwift interface, perform digital takeoffs efficiently, and integrate the software into their workflows for improved accuracy and speed.

• Participants will also delve into various standard methods of measurement, such as SMM7, EASMM, and NRM2, enhancing their ability to create precise and standardized BOQs.

• The training equips participants with skills in building up unit rates, analyzing material, labor, and equipment costs, and reconciling materials for different construction elements. This knowledge extends to construction cost management aspects like budget preparation, resource planning, time phasing, and financial risk tracking.

• Attendees gain practical experience in using PlanSwift for digital takeoffs, item creation, editing, formula incorporation, and report generation. It also covers the customization of PlanSwift through templates, parts overview, assemblies, and advanced features.

• Participants will learn about construction budget preparation, resource allocation, time phasing, progress measurement, earned value management, change management, and cost forecasting.

Throughout the training sessions, attendees were immersed in hands-on learning experiences, gaining practical skills in automating quantity take-offs and enhancing their proficiency with Planswift. 

The training not only served as a platform for skill enhancement but also as a testament to the commitment of the participating companies to invest in the continuous professional development of their teams. By embracing digitalization through Planswift, these professionals are poised to revolutionize their approach to quantity surveying and contribute to the overall advancement of the construction sector in Rwanda.
